US Embassy Helps Expand Tutoring Program

Results Are in…

The Peace Girls did exceptionally well in the 2021-22 school year. We saw the overall success rate of the girls increase to 82% (compared to 66% the previous year), and 25 High School Seniors passed the strenuous BAC-2 exam to graduate and move on to higher education opportunities!!

We attribute much of this success to classes returning to normal after a year+ of covid disruptions. But that's only part of the story…

As reported back in March, the Peace Sisters took a bold step this year in countering the extreme learning loss that occurred in Togo as a result of the pandemic. We launched a 4-month Pilot Tutoring Program that focused on students in the three grades (9th, 11th, & 12th) that would face high-stakes exams at the end of the school year.

The initial results from this pilot are promising:

In fact, we found these results so compelling that we decided to apply for support to expand our tutoring program, and now we are thrilled to announce:

We are so grateful to the US Embassy in Togo for believing in our work and helping us to address the quality of girls' education in Dapaong. As a result of this funding we will now be able to expand the tutoring to a 7-month program so the students will have the best shot at passing their exams.

The stakes are so high at these grade levels that the girls must pass these exams in order to move on to the next grade or graduate from high school.

Every penny of this grant will go towards tutoring

We are still working hard to cover the costs of school fees and supplies. And in fact, with more girls passing their exams and moving on to higher education opportunities, the costs of Peace Sisters will continue to rise. Though a year in middle school or high school can cost as little as $40 per girl in Togo, the price of higher education can sometimes reach $1,000 per girl.

With your help we can continue to grow!

Thank You for Your Support!
