“I am 19 years old and my father is no longer living. I have three sisters and one brother, and we live together with our mother. I am in the 9th grade of a secondary school in Dapaong, Togo. Due to a lack of financial support, my brother dropped out of school and meanwhile none of my three sisters has ever attended school. They are all married. In my community, it is generally understood that sending girls to school is a waste of time; by tradition, people think that a girl is only there to have children.”
